Why EAs need a high-performance vision

Why EAs need a high-performance vision

“A high-performance vision is more than a goal; it’s a roadmap to your future, aligning with
your strengths, values, and intentions. For EAs, whose roles demand agility, foresight, and exceptional organisational skills, having a clear and inspiring vision isn’t just an advantage – it’s essential,” says Shannah Kennedy, executive coach and keynote speaker.

A personal vision acts as your GPS, guiding decision-making and helping you navigate the
complexities of leadership and life. It’s not merely a picture of what could be but a call to
action, inviting you to become something greater. With a vision in place, you’re empowered
to set bold goals, elevate habits, and create a fulfilling life both professionally and personally.

The price of no vision

Many individuals drift through life, reacting to circumstances rather than shaping them. This can feel like being stuck on a roundabout, unsure of when or where to exit. Without a vision, life becomes repetitive and uninspiring, leading to stagnation and frustration. For EAs – often the linchpins of their organisations – a lack of vision can result in burnout and diminished impact.

The power of a personal vision

Your dreams are the highest expression of your inner self. They provide the foundation for a vision that excites and motivates you. By taking the time to clarify and amplify your
aspirations, you unlock limitless potential. As Buddha wisely said, “What you imagine, you
create.”

To design your roadmap, start with a five-year plan. Think about who you want to become,
how you want to feel, and what experiences you desire. Define your goals in terms of
relationships, personal growth, professional achievements, and financial stability. Your vision should be bold, clear, and inspiring.

Why it matters in business

Every individual within a business, from assistants to executives and CEOs, should have a
personal high-performance life plan. A well-defined vision fosters high energy, creativity,
and resilience. It aligns personal aspirations with organisational goals, creating a culture of
inspiration and accountability. When every team member operates with purpose and clarity,
the collective energy of the organisation soars.

Assistants, in particular, are pivotal in maintaining this energy. By embodying a strong
personal vision, you set an example for others, contribute to a positive workplace culture, and enhance your ability to manage challenges with grace and focus. Visionary thinking helps you anticipate needs, solve problems proactively, and remain a valued asset to your team.

My Vision Board journey

I have been making vision boards since I was about 20 years old. It’s incredibly nourishing to look back on them and see my dreams and goals evolve over time. Initially, my vision
included a home, a partner, children, and a career that allowed flexibility while bringing me
satisfaction and serving others. I envisioned adventure, travel, a healthy body, and a strong, flexible mind.

I update my vision board every two to three years, refining my goals and celebrating
progress. Today, my board features global dreams, speaking engagements, and ongoing
support for individuals seeking clarity and direction. It includes travel to bucket-list
destinations, walking historic pilgrim trails, and maintaining a fit and energetic lifestyle
through weights and yoga. Words like “control the controllable” and “your health is your
wealth” keep me focused and inspired.

Practical steps to craft your vision

  1. Define your five-year goals: Write down how you want to feel physically, mentally, and emotionally in five years. Consider your career achievements, financial stability, relationships, and personal growth.
  2. Create your vision board: Use images, words, and symbols that represent your dreams. Let it be a daily source of motivation.
  3. Align with your role: Ensure your vision supports your professional responsibilities and enhances your contributions to your organisation.
  4. Celebrate wins: Acknowledge every step toward your vision. Gratitude and reflection fuel continued progress.

Ignite your potential

For EAs, a personal vision isn’t just a tool—it’s a transformative force. It provides direction, inspires action, and elevates your performance. Take Action! Start designing your roadmap today and make every day count.
