Earlier in the year, American comedian Kevin Hart filed a lawsuit against his former PA, Miesha Shakes, and gossip vlogger Tasha K. He accused them of trying to extort him and now his ex-assistant – who worked with him between 2017 and 2020 – is fighting back, looking for dismissal from the lawsuit.
The situation came about after Shakes did an interview with the YouTuber, in which Hart claims she made false statements. He also said she revealed disclosed information that she knew from being employed by him, and this violated the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) she signed after leaving her position. As a result, he sued her.
Reports say Shakes denies all allegations of wrongdoing brought against her by her 45-year-old former employer. And she has asked a Los Angeles judge to take her out of the bombshell civil extortion case.
Her legal team said Hart “failed to plead specifically which statements they contend are false and defamatory or which facts [he] contends are true and an invasion of privacy.” They added that his claims are barred “because the statements challenged as false and defamatory, to the extent they can be determined, are substantially true.”
In addition, Shakes says her statements were not defamatory and “constitute expressions of protection opinion.” She argues that there was no malice in her actions – and maintains that she didn’t cause any damage to her former employer.
When it comes to the NDA, the PA’s legal team said the contact was “invalid/illegal and cannot be enforced based on mental or physical incapacity which prevented [Miesha] from having the legal capacity to enter into or understand the alleged contract(s).”
