Rome in a day for Qantas

One of the trends the airline was seeing post-pandemic was the preference for direct flights

Travel to Europe has become a whole lot easier with Qantas announcing seasonal flights from Perth to Rome in 2024. The route will be the only direct flight between Australia and continental Europe offered by any airline, with approximately 22,000 seats available.

Qantas International CEO Cameron Wallace said one of the trends the airline was seeing post-pandemic was the preference for direct flights: “Strong customer demand for our long-haul international routes has given us the confidence to commit to a third season in 2024.”

The re-launch of seasonal Rome services comes as Qantas returns to more of the destinations it operated to pre-pandemic (in 2023 Qantas returned to New York for the first time in more than three years with the launch of inaugural flights from Sydney via Auckland), made possible by the delivery of new 787 aircraft in recent months.

The Qantas Group is expected to return to around 100% of its international network capacity by March 2024; a significant increase from just 45% 12 months ago.
