Nearly twenty years after its debut, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is said to be in the works. What are your thoughts, EAs?
For those not in the know, the original hit movie was based on a book by Lauren Weisberger, a former PA for Anna Wintour, the editor of American Vogue.
The novel followed a college graduate (Andrea Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway) working as an assistant for tricky but fabulous fashion magazine editor, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Emily Blunt was also a key figure, playing fellow assistant Emily Charlton at the fictional magazine, Runway.
It’s said the second movie would focus on the decline of traditional magazine publishing with Emily working for a luxury brand that Miranda is trying to get on board for advertising. Sources say Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the script for the 2006 film, has been asked to write the sequel.
Reports also suggest the first film’s producer Wendy Finermen has been in talks with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt who have agreed to a sequel. But other cast members, including Anne Hathaway, are yet to be confirmed.
In 2022, she advised during Entertainment Weekly’s talk show The View that a sequel would be impossible. Anne said: “I don’t know if there can be [a sequel]. I just think that movie was in a different era. Now everything’s gone so digital and that movie is centered around the concept of producing a physical thing and it’s just, it’s just very different.”
The Devil Wears Prada earned $326.7 million at the box office.
