Ambitious assistants looking for a new job (and a move overseas) will be disappointed to hear that applications have just closed for an exciting position working with the British royal family. Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales and wife to the heir of the British throne, was recruiting for a PA to her assistant private secretary to help keep her hectic schedule under control. This came as she became a royal patron of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance (a charity that supports families impacted by perinatal mental health), adding to her already busy roster of charitable work.
The job advertisement, which was posted on LinkedIn by The Household of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and had more than 200 applicants in just two days, stated: “This is an exciting opportunity to join our PA team in support of the assistant private secretary to HRH The Duchess of Cambridge. This role will provide wide-ranging administrative and operational support to the assistant private secretary.”
As such, the 40-year-old mother-of-three is looking for a solid history of secretarial and admin experience so that the PA can be responsible for writing business correspondence, managing diaries, arranging meetings (and taking minutes during them), working with the events and visits team, organising travel and providing other general administrative support.
Skill-wise, impeccable organisation, excellent communication skills, a high level of professionalism, clear self-motivation and impressive attention to detail were also listed as being sought-after, whilst evidence of being able to work well under pressure would also stand an applicant in good stead.
Kensington Palace advised the new hire would also be a vital support to Kate and husband Prince William’s charity work. Therefore, potential recruits should have a good knowledge of the diverse communities in the United Kingdom, Commonwealth and worldwide – and be interested in it. Naturally an interest in the work of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would also be beneficial.
There was no mention of salary the on LinkedIn job post but press speculation suggested the successful candidate would earn £27,500 per year. The advert did specify, though, that the position would be permanent; working 37.5 hours per week. But it didn’t say whether the position would be remote, in office or hybrid.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that when Kate becomes Queen she will have another PA – her sister, Pippa Middleton. Sky News said that: “Kate is already thinking of making Pippa a lady in waiting. It’s almost like a personal assistant but kind of a right-hand woman.”
