TikTok banned on Australian government devices

New Zealand, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and the European Union have also banned or restricted use of TikTok on government devices

For all those EAs who didn’t get the memo. Having TikTok on your government-provided device is now banned in Australia.

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus on Tuesday said. “After receiving advice from intelligence and security agencies, today I authorised the Secretary of the Attorney-General’s Department to issue a mandatory direction under the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) to prohibit the TikTok app on devices issued by Commonwealth departments and agencies – The direction will come into effect as soon as practicable.”

There are some exceptions but if you’re working in a government entity or if your organisation works with a government entity, a quick check with your HR people might be an idea, as it is responsibility of the organisations chief security officer to approve the use of TikTok on government devices.

New Zealand, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and the European Union have also banned or restricted use of TikTok on government devices.
