Those innocent little 140 characters could be more damaging to your career than you think – especially if you’re sat at your computer or Tweeting from your phone late at night. A recent study looking at the correlation between NBA players’ Tweets and their performance on the field found that hitting the keyboard between 11pm and 7amresulted in fewer shots, rebounds, steals and blocks and a drop in shooting accuracy. While life on the court is somewhat different to a PA’s work life the scientists theorise that players who are tweeting late at night and into the early morning are getting less sleep, resulting in a poorer performance the next day. And that’s going to be just as relevant to PAs as it is to the players studied. Experts advise sticking to Tweeting during office hours only and perhaps an hour or two either side of your work day to avoid it impacting on your career.
