Tourism Australia has broadened the scope of its Business Events bid fund, which provides assistance to Australian destinations bidding for overseas events. The $12 million dollar fund (which opened in May last year) has successfully won 23 events—to the value of over $250 million.
Australia’s Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Simon Birmingham, announced changes to the fund’s eligibility criteria that will allow destinations to apply for smaller events. Penny Lion, Executive General Manager Events at Tourism Australia, said the changes are a result of feedback from the events industry, “we are making some changes to eligibility criteria and terms.”
