Relaxed yet inspired luxury

Sail into your next event with Port Macquarie’s newest Hamptons-inspired destination…

When Japanese investors snapped up some land right next to Port Macquarie Marina back in the 1980s, no-one could have seen just what a transformation would follow. The original owners built what was to become the area’s most exquisite resort and, 30 years and a couple of owners later, the area is once again turning heads. Acquired by MATSAL Property Investments in July 2013, plans were set in motion to create a next-level leisure, wedding, conference and event destination – plans that have now come to fruition.

The new owners have been busy developing ideas for a property that would see it set the standard in luxe coastal hotels and stylish conferences, with capacity for up to 300 guests in its stunning new ballroom. Already familiar in the region through the development of the former Four Points Sheraton property (now Rydges Port Macquarie), the owners understood the value of the site overlooking the marina and the importance of creating a coastal venue with a difference.

The iconic beauty just needed some love and attention – and a multi-million-dollar investment. Nick McLaughlin, general manager of Sails Port Macquarie, said: “We’re thrilled with the completion of this exciting project. The resort transformation is nothing short of magnificent – each detail, from creation of the outstanding conference and event spaces, and room design to the selection of resort landscaping, furniture and tableware, has been carefully orchestrated to create that ambient Hamptons coastal feel. The team is looking forward to welcoming guests to experience this gorgeous new venue.”

Gold Coast-based architect Hamilton, Hayes, Henderson Architecture is responsible for the refurbishment design and has created a stunning fusion of two worlds. Blending seamlessly with the lush surrounds, Hamptons-inspired architecture features fresh white gables overlooking manicured lawns and tropical gardens with bay vistas.

And connectivity to the fantastic marina precinct, which was always part of the resort’s identity, has been retained, giving guests the opportunity to admire beautiful boats moored at the marina from their conference window.

The new Boathouse Bar & Restaurant overlooks the marina – perfect for group dining and entertainment. And outdoor dining is always possible, thanks to the sprawling all-weather deck and alfresco fire table.

The resort boasts a number of exciting indoor and alfresco breakout spaces to complement its 92 guest rooms and suites, all of which offer balconies or terraces (and many of them capturing stunning vistas).

In addition, the new Hamptons- inspired Pavilion will cater for exquisite events, while the Hamptons Ballroom (with balcony over the bay, event lounge, dedicated bar, and wrap- around floor-to-ceiling window) creates a superb conference experience, ensuring it remains competitive for regional business events.

When the event is over, guests can enjoy kayaks and paddle boards off the private jetty. Located just a 10-minute stroll from Port Macquarie CBD, there are vintage bicycles on-site for guests who want to explore the area.

Emerging from its significant investment, the stunning refurbishment has cemented Sails Port Macquarie by Rydges as an iconic landmark, and one that will delight and excite event planning EAs and their guests for years to come. For a conference destination with relaxed luxury, this coastal beauty delivers.
