Victoria’s second largest city now has a purpose-built events venue, giving EAs another option for conferences and corporate events outside Melbourne.
Geelong’s Nyaal Banyul Convention and Event Centre officially opened on 21 June, operated by the Victorian Convention and Event Trust – the same organisation behind the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).
The venue includes a 1,000-seat theatre, exhibition spaces, meeting rooms, conference facilities and flexible event spaces, along with food and beverage offerings and a public outdoor plaza on the waterfront.
It opens with more than 80 events already secured and 250 proposed events in the pipeline, ranging from community gatherings to national conferences.
For EAs booking events in Victoria, Nyaal Banyul offers a regional alternative to Melbourne with MCEC-standard operations behind it. Geelong is approximately 75 minutes from Melbourne by road or train, making it accessible for delegates travelling from interstate.
The venue was designed in partnership with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, with cultural narratives embedded throughout the architecture and visitor experience.
Upcoming events include the Professional Conference Organisers Association conference in December and the Australian Tourism Awards in February 2027.
