Does working remotely have an impact your stress levels and your relationships? Australian wellbeing and mindfulness speaker Elizabeth Jane shares her top tips for keeping your home life happy, while working remotely.
Prioritise ‘me time’ Unless the relationship you have with yourself is fully taken care of your inner turmoil will be reflected back at you. Time out allows us to stop and feel how we are really feeling. Then we can start choosing options and making decisions to have us feeling better fast.
Do less and attract more It may seem counter-intuitive but if we give ourselves a short break, even ten minutes, we can start replenishing our energy supplies. We have more clarity and focus. And we more readily find creative solutions to our problems, whether work- or home-related.
Set clear boundaries Regardless of what is happening with work, clearly separate your work and personal life. Designate a specific area and time for work-related tasks. Establish boundaries with your partner about work-related discussions. Agree times when work-talk is off-limits and stick to it.
Communicate Make the effort to open up about your stress levels and what’s happening at work. Listen to your partner’s feelings and concerns too.
Prioritise quality time and have fun
Schedule regular date nights or special activities that both of you enjoy. Dedicate time to be completely unplugged from work and present.
Support each other Encourage your partner to take breaks and engage in activities that help relieve stress. And have regular check-ins about how you’re both feeling.
Maintain healthy eating habits, regular exercise and adequate sleep Easier said than done, but a healthy body can better handle stress.
Plan your days and weeks together Allocate time for both work and personal activities. Make your relationship a priority by consciously making time and effort for it.
Take a moment each day to express gratitude for each other Acknowledge positive aspects of your relationship. This will lift your vibe and attract more things to be grateful for.
Create a calm home environment Think comfortable furniture, soothing colours and free from clutter. Create a sanctuary at home so you can disconnect from what is happening at work.
Address work issues proactively Seek solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Consider professional development opportunities that could help you manage work stress better.
