Adelaide Convention Centre Transforms Event Dining

Innovation has been core to the Adelaide Convention Centre experience from the very beginning. Australia’s first purpose-built convention centre, the venue was recently reborn as one of the world’s most modern, flexible and technologically advanced meetings and events venues following a $397M redevelopment.

In July, the expanded venue proudly introduced its latest innovation in the form of its new Honest Goodness menu. Designed by the venue’s Executive Chef, Gavin Robertson, in collaboration with leading nutritional experts from the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), the new menu is best described as ‘feel good, whole food, made fresh’. It’s a menu where nature – whole, fresh produce – is the hero, and is set to transform event dining with its emphasis on minimal intervention foods and conscious reduction of processed elements.

“Our new Honest Goodness menu brings the public nutrition message to the forefront,” says Simon Burgess, General Manager, Adelaide Convention Centre. “Increased public conversation about mindful eating and growing demand for healthy event menus along with our own continued quest for innovation was the driving force behind Honest Goodness.”

Chef Gavin adds, “We listened to our clients, handpicked the best of regional produce, and engaged with local artisan producers to develop a menu that is not only distinctly South Australian, but full of flavour. The emphasis is very much on ‘house-made’ and replacing processed elements with whole, fresh ingredients.”

Brimming with the best of South Australian produce, the Adelaide Convention Centre team achieved its new Honest Goodness menu philosophy by replacing salts with rubs and spices and swapping sugar-laden drinks for house-made ice teas and fruit-infused waters. The menu also has a strong focus on ‘preservative free’. Instead of using ingredients featuring nitrates, synthetic food preservatives or other additives, Honest Goodness uses natural rubs and house-made marinades to enhance flavour.

Put simply, Honest Goodness is about celebrating food that not only tastes good, but is good in every sense,” Burgess adds.
