$1.4m upgrade at InterContinental Sanctuary Cove to deliver stronger options for business-events organisers in 2026

A fresh new look for The Woolshed! InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort completes its $1.4M refurbishment

InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort — IHG’s first resort in Australia, signed in 2012 — has completed a $1.4 million refurbishment of The Woolshed, the property’s main conference and events hub. The refreshed spaces and technology upgrades are designed to give organisers and executive assistants more flexibility, stronger production capabilities and a smoother planning experience for events taking place from 2026 onwards. The refurbishment follows a major $6million upgrade completed in 2020

The Woolshed has been fully redesigned with a clean, modern look that makes it easier to create different styles of business events, from small strategy meetings to large conferences and gala dinners. The refurbishment includes a total interior upgrade of MacArthur’s Ballroom and the first-floor meeting rooms. These spaces now feature improved acoustics, updated finishes and layouts that work better for high-attendance corporate events.

A major focus of the upgrade is technology, something increasingly important for organisers looking to deliver more polished presentations and hybrid-style formats. The resort has installed updated lighting-control systems that support high-production event requirements, giving organisers more confidence when running complex AV programs. This builds on the large technology investment made in 2024, which included the installation of an 18-metre LED screen — one of the most significant visual assets for events in the region.

General Manager Matt Rippin said the improvements are designed to meet the changing expectations of corporate event planners.

“Queensland continues to strengthen its position as one of Australia’s most compelling destinations for meetings and events,” he said. “The refreshed Woolshed, complemented by ongoing enhancements across our lagoon precinct and outdoor spaces, allows us to offer exceptional flexibility — whether it’s a conference, an executive retreat or a bespoke corporate gala. This investment ensures we remain a destination where luxury, local connection and operational capability work seamlessly together.”

For EAs and organisers, the resort now provides greater choice in venue style and size, with 15 indoor and outdoor spaces available. These include The Woolshed, MacArthur’s Ballroom, The Fountain Terrace, Lagoon Beach Club with its new deck area, the one-acre lagoon pool beach, Marina Lawn, landscaped gardens and a selection of dining venues such as The Fireplace.

The 251-room resort spans 4.2 hectares and includes two championship golf courses, lagoon-style pools and multiple restaurants, providing delegates with a blend of professional facilities and leisure amenities that support longer incentive programs and multi-day events.
